Mess-Free Pumpkin Makeover: Creative No-Carve Decor Ideas

Believe it or not, sometimes I can’t seem to decorate pumpkins every year. (Audible gasp from the imaginary audience in my head.)

I know, I know. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay. It was a great experience to stay here! I love the way they have evolved and I am happy to share this technique with you.

For this project, I am working with Canon USA. I use my home printer, the Canon PIXMA TS9521C, for many craft projects, to print photos and print work documents. This is the perfect all-in-one printer, especially if you like tinkering as much as I do. It’s really pretty – I have the white Version and I like how it looks in my home office.

There are many ways to decorate pumpkins, and probably pumpkin carving comes to mind for most people. Although I like a carved pumpkin, this is a non-carved pumpkin decoration idea. Pumpkin ideas without carving are a very good Alternative because they are easier to make (no need for knives or sophisticated skills) and are also less messy.

For my pumpkins, I experimented with printable tattoo paper (inkjet) with scary patterns that I printed using the Canon Creative Park application. I love the results!

Tattoo Paper works a little better on the surface of pumpkins than sticker paper or thicker decals, because it is thinner and easier to draw on the surface (as it would be on your skin if you used it as a temporary tattoo).

You can easily create your own designs for these, but I chose the easiest route and just used a nice Design from the Canon Creative Park app. If you’ve never used the app before, give it a try-it’s really fun and offers a lot of different options, including Seasonal Designs. It is a free application, and there are all kinds of paper projects that you can print directly from your mobile.

I tested this technique on dummy pumpkins as well as on real pumpkins. Although it worked on dummy pumpkins (on the right), I think the Paper worked a little better with the surface of the real pumpkin on the left. But both worked, so it’s up to you to choose which you prefer.

  • PIXMA TS9521C Printer + Canon Creative Park app
  • Temporary tattoo paper (Inkjet compatible)
  • Scissors
  • Light washcloth or clean cloth and water
  • Pumpkins (dummy or real)

Step one: Print your drawings on the tattoo paper. If you are using a drawing with text, remember that you want to mirror the drawing before printing it.

Step two: Cut out the patterns.

Step Three: Peel off the plastic coating and place it on the pumpkin, press to stick.

Step four: Lightly use a washcloth or a damp cloth to lightly blot the Paper. The cloth does not need to be soaked or dripping – just wet. Remove the Paper to reveal your drawing.

Step five: Repeat the operation for all the models and pumpkins.

One thing to keep in mind: temporary tattoo paper is supposed to be exactly that temporary. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.

So it is better to expose somewhere with an overhang or indoors. Thank you for allowing me to share!
